I made a Flowering Zinnia DSP (Designer Series Paper) card —a little fussy cutting and some texture then poof, a card with lots of color.
PIECES & PARTS
- Highland Heather card base: 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″ (top fold card)
- Flowering Zinnia DSP
- ‘green striped’ side pieces 3/4″ x 5-1/2″ (x2)
- ‘green striped’ card insert layer 4″ x 5-1/4″
- ‘leaf print’ 3-1/2″ x 5-1/2″
- colorful scraps for die-cutting with All That dies
- fussy cut zinnias
- Old Olive & Mossy Meadow cardstock for leaves die-cut with Magnolia Mood Dies
- Lemon Lolly cardstock for the sentiment
CREATE BACKGROUND
- Add the strips to either side of the card base. TIP: I used the straight edge of the Paper Trimmer to line up the layers.
- Emboss the ‘leaf print’ with the Zinnia 3D embossing folder. Adhere embossed panel to the top of the card base (it will overlap the side strips. TIP: Use Multipurpose Liquid Glue (VERY LITTLE) to give you some wiggle time. And make sure to get the edges.
MAKING ZINNIAS POP
- After fussy cutting the zinnias, use coordinating ink and a sponge dauber to add ink to the edges. I used Flirty Flamingo, Gorgeous Grape, and Pumpkin Pie ink. TIP: I left a little white on the edges and the ink covered it nicely. TIP: When fussy cutting, use a quality sharp scissor for the best success.
- Add Dimensionals behind each of the flowers.
- Place flowers onto the card front as shown.
FOLIAGE
I did not have the Simply Zinnia bundle. So, I improvised using the leaves from Magnolia Mood Dies. You can use either with success or your favorite foliage dies from another die set. Die-cut leaves from Old Olive and Mossy Meadow cardstock.
A LITTLE SOMETHING EXTRA
I wanted to put a little something on the upper right to add more color. All That dies to the rescue. Scraps of Flowering Zinnia DSP are perfect here.
SENTIMENT
I needed a thank you card and found the perfect one in the Dainty Delight stamp set. I stamped it in Melon Mambo on Lemon Lolly cardstock and trimmed it to fit.
FINISHING TOUCHES
Add some sequins around the floral focal image. HINT: Tuck a larger sequin behind the zinnia.
Layer a Lemon Lolly 3-3/4″ x 5″ piece with the ‘leaf print’ 4″ x 5-1/4″ piece and add a couple of die-cut banners and a leaf.
Add colorful Flowering Zinnia DSP to the envelope flap for a splash of color.
WHY THIS LAYOUT?
Have you checked out PageMaps layouts? The CardMaps and PageMaps (scrapbook) offer wonderful inspiration. Here is the one that I used for my Flowering Zinnia card inspiration.
My Flowering Zinnia DSP card uses a diagonal layout. If you would like to learn more about the Rule of Thirds and how to use it to compliment your card designs, check out this post.
You’ve written terrific content on this topic, which goes to show how knowledgable you are on this subject. I happen to cover about Airport Transfer on my personal blog YQ9 and would appreciate some feedback. Thank you and keep posting good stuff!
Hi Anne,
Love how you did your card.
Thank you, Michelle. I appreciate your kind comment.
Absolutely love, first thing on my list to order.
I love both the Zinnia and the Magnolia bundles.
