The Fussy Cut Basics
Let’s start with some of the basics. I like to have a thicker cutout for dimension. So, I added Basic Black cardstock to the back of the DSP before fussy cutting. To add the cardstock to the DSP you can use an Adhesive Sheet or Multipurpose Liquid Glue.
TIP #1: Give the glue a couple of minutes to dry before cutting.
TIP #2: Leave a thin white edge when fussy cutting for a clean outline.
TIP #3: Use SHARP detail scissors (I prefer the Stampin’ Up! Snips). Open the scissors and slowly cut while moving the paper not the scissors. It is ok to ‘chip away’ while cutting.
Ready for the cards? Here they are

Card #3 – Parisian Flourish Embossed Background
Instructions for Card #3
- Cut layers:
- Thick Whisper White cardstock: 4″ x 5-1/4″
- Emboss Thick Whisper White with the Parisian Flourish 3D embossing folder
- Use Blending Brush (NEW TOOL IN MINI CATALOG) to add Melon Mambo ink to the flower and Old Olive ink to the leaves. I added a little Light Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blend to the veins of the leaves. And Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blend to the center of the flower.
- TIPS:
- Clean brush by wiping on a damp cloth until no color transfers.
- Add ink directly from the ink pad with a light swipe of the Blending Brush. Practice your pressure on a scrap of cardstock. I always rub off a little ink before working on my project.
- Add the sentiment strip
- Arrange the colored fussy cut image and adhere with Black Dimensionals
- Add some Matte Black Dots to complete the look
- True Love DSP: Cut 2-1/4″ x 6 for envelope flap
The Sentiment Strip
The sentiment I used on Card #1 and Card #3 was created using the Best Year and Let’s Create Together stamp sets. I stamped the ‘Thank You’ sentiment using the Stamparatus and the 2nd line using a Clear Block. The Basic Black strip measured about 1″ x 3-3/4″.
I cut the Best Year stamp sentiment apart. If you can’t bring yourself to doing this step, you can mask the row of words off.
The Let’s Create Together stamp set is a Demonstrator Supply Item. Just one more reason to JOIN Stampin’ Up! and my Team.
I hope that your 2021 is off to a creative start. Please contact me to learn more about becoming a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator. I welcome Hobby Stampers and will gladly help any team member at any level. No Pressure and No Penalty to drop.

Great cards ! Your instructions are A PLUS !! Thanks for your tip about putting cardstock behind your fussy cutting projects. Can`t wait to try that ! I love fussy cutting so your cards are such fun and inspiration since I have this paper !!
So very glad that you have the DSP. Adding the cardstock behind thinner papers before fussy cutting really gives them nice rigidity and depth.
I love all these cards! I always forget that I can fussy cut my DSP to make accents. Thank you for showing us such beautiful cards!
Glad you liked the cards. Shhh — fussy cutting DSP for accents is our secret. LOL!
Love this DSP and these cards. So glad to see you back posting~missed seeing your creativity in action. Happy New Year!
Your kind words humble me. I have been cleaning the kids’ toy closet. Researching Micro Machines, GI Joes and TMNT. I can now ace a trivia night if the subject is GI Joe. On to organizing the Legos but first a creative week or two.
