Love is in the air in February. Did you know that people started sending a Valentine card and flowers to their loved ones anonymously, simply signing, “your Valentine.” The tradition began around the 1700s in England. Every January and February we see stores decked out in pink and red hearts reminding us that love is in the air. People are making dinner reservations, ordering flowers, and falling in love. Maybe we should have a Valentine day every month?

I made a card today using lots of different dies with hearts.

I love how this card turned out. It will be good for Valentine’s Day, Wedding, Birthday, or just because you need to send a card.

I chose to use the basic colors of Real Red, Basic White, and Basic Black. Here are the dies that I used to create this card

Making Pieces & Parts

Sentiment

Stamp the sentiment from the Lovely & Sweet stamp set using Versamark on vellum. Then heat emboss with black embossing powder. Punch the sentiment with the 2″ circle punch. Keep the sentiment on the left so you can trim it down. TIP: Use the reverse tweezers from the Embossing Additions Tool Kit to save your fingers from the Heat Tool.

Punch Vellum

Punch a 2″ circle from the Layering Vellum script sheet. Then punch a small flower using the Itty Bitty Accent punch (retired) [ALTERNATIVE: Use the flower die from Seasonal Branches].

Now get ready to die-cut.

Basic White Cardstock

  • Teacup dies (retired): small tag, 3 small hearts (3x)
  • Dainty Delight dies: vine

Red Red Cardstock

Basically, any selection of hearts will work. Just punch or die-cut various sizes. I used these

  • Adoring Hearts dies: panel of 9 hearts OR
  • Give it a Whirl dies (retired): large and small stitched heart
  • Teacup dies (retired): 2 of smallest hearts

Assemble

I started with a 3-3/4″ x 5″ Thick Basic White panel. Score 1-1/2″ from the right side. This will be the groove for the Crumb Cake Baker’s Twine. I used a hand-held hole punch to indent the top and bottom of the score line. Now we have our foundation and we can build our design.

Wrap the baker’s twine around the panel and add the tag. TIP: Tie a half knot and add a glue dot to the knot to hold it in place. Put a Dimensional behind the tag and thread the twine through the top hole of the tag. Tie a bow. Add a red heart to the tag.

You could stop here and the card is lovely and simple. OR … continue

Adhere the Layering Vellum circle to the card panel to the left of the twine and above the imaginary center line. TIP: Use a small amount of liquid glue along the edge near the twine. Trim the sentiment circle and adhere as shown. TIP: If you don’t want to see your glue blobs, use a small amount of liquid glue behind the lettering.

Layer the vine over the script vellum circle. Add 2 tiny hearts and a red flower.

Use Dimensionals behind the 2 larger hearts and adhere them above the tag on the twine line.

Sprinkle various small white hearts on the background. Use an odd number and vary the smaller sizes.

Add Basic Rhinestone Gems.

Grand Finale

Add a heart to the back flap of the envelope and a couple to the inside message panel. Select an appropriate sentiment for the occasion to stamp on the inside message panel. And Voila! you have a Valentine card (or wedding, or anniversary, or birthday….)

If you are sending it for Valentine’s Day, maybe just sign it, ‘your Valentine‘.
