Have you ever stamped on watercolor paper and then spritzed it with water? I know that we can ink the stamp then spritz the stamp and apply it to damp watercolor paper. But I wanted fast and easy. Here is the Very Versailles Watercolor card that resulted from my little experiment.

- Thick Very Vanilla cardstock: 4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″
- Fluid 100 Watercolor paper: 3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″
- Brass Foil: 3-3/4″ x 5″ plus 2 x 5″ for sentiment frame and die-cuts
- Shimmery White cardstock: for sentiment
- Vellum: 3″ x 3″ for die-cut
CREATING THE BACKGROUND
- Stamp leaf branch from Very Versailles stamp set in Old Olive ink on watercolor paper.
- Spritz stamped panel with water until you get the ‘flow’ you like. Set aside to dry.
- When dry, stamp the script and frame using Soft Suede ink from Very Versailles stamp set.
- Sponge distress the edges of the watercolor panel with Soft Suede or Early Espresso ink.
- Oh my! I could just stop here and admire the Very Versailles watercolor background but I will carry on and create the card

Stamp the Good Morning Magnolia image onto the vellum panel using Basic Gray ink. The lines will be blurred by the Stampin’ Blends and the alcohol to create a faux watercolor effect.
Color the image starting with the lightest color. Use Dark Daffodil Delight for the center. Dip a fine-tip paintbrush into the rubbing alcohol and gently move the color. I added Champagne Shimmer Paint to my rubbing alcohol.
Next, color non-adjacent petals with Dark Flirty Flamingo. Gently blur the stamped line. Let dry and repeat on other petals. Do the same for the leaves. TIP: Blow into a straw to gently direct the ink flow in the desired direction.
Add a second layer of color after the image is dry. Repeat the process of alcohol painting and gently blowing the ink.
OPTIONAL: Pick up some clean rubbing alcohol with the paintbrush and flick it over the image. This will create small droplets that will lighten some areas by moving the color outward.
Adhere the vellum panel to the Basic White cardstock panel using Stampin’ Seal or a light amount of Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Add to Basic Black card base.
Stamp the sentiment in White Craft ink and heat emboss with with embossing powder. Trim to you liking. Add to card panel with small black Dimensionals.
Customize the message insert and the envelope with some flicks of color from the brush end of the Stampin’ Blends.
- Die-cut Vellum leaf cluster from Forever Flourishing dies.
- Stamp the sentiment from Positive Thoughts stamp set on Shimmery White with Early Espresso ink. Fussy cut.
- Adhere the fussy cut sentiment to the Brass Foil with liquid glue and let dry a minute. TIP: Just a smear of glue. You don’t want glue on the Brass Foil.
- Now, VERY SLOWLY fussy cut around the sentiment leaving a brass frame. HINT: Cut in the same direction as you did for the first fussy cutting to get a consistent curve.
- Die-cut 4 leaf clusters and a small butterfly from the Brass Foil using the Nature’s Thoughts dies.
- Grab the Scalloped Lace Trim and tie a bow.
ASSEMBLY
- Layer as shown.
- Use Dimensionals behind the sentiment.
- Glue dots are great for attaching the other elements and the lace bow.
- The NEW Stampin’ Seal+ is perfect for attaching the Fluid 100 Watercolor paper to the Brass Foil.
- Add a Brass Foil leaf cluster to the envelope and the card insert to complete your project. TIP: Apply liquid glue with a sponge wedge for a light touch. The craft mat is a perfect work surface and it washes easily.
Could this get any easier? Try it with other colors, or stamp sets. And as always, when you are working with a watercolor keep in mind that the colors soften as they dry. What did you think of the Very Versailles Watercolor card?
